Wenger Loses Cool Over Arsenal Future Report

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger erupted on Monday after a reporter asked the Gunners coach about a report claiming that he had entered into new contract talks with the London club. During the press conference, which was supposed to be for his team’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 match against Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich, Wenger grew angrier as he was continually asked about Arsenal’s FA Cup loss over the weekend. When the question about his contract talks came up, he snapped.

"That is the wrong information and I work for 16 years in England," Wenger said. "I think I deserve a bit more credit than wrong information that has only one intention: to harm." Then, turning to one reporter, Wenger asked: "Why do you look at me?" The reporter said:"Because it's your press conference.” Then Wenger said: "I just thought you had given this information out," referring to the report of contract talks.

As the AP points out, Wenger is facing more and more questions about his future the longer Arsenal goes without a trophy. On Saturday, Wenger’s men lost, 1-0, at home to Blackburn of the npower Championship, England’s second division, marking the second time this year the team was dumped out of a cup competition by a club from a lower division. The loss meant that unless the Gunners win the Champions League, the London club is facing an eighth consecutive season without a trophy, the last being an FA Cup win in 2005.
