Wenger Tries to Explain Bizarre Outburst

Following his bizarre outburst at a press conference on Monday, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger sought to explain why he became angry about a report that said he was in talks to sign a contract extension with the club he has served for 16 years. On Monday, The Sun published a story claiming Wenger was ready to sign a two-year contract extension with Arsenal, yet when questions about the report surfaced, the Frenchman responded angrily to what he called “lies.”

Apparently, Wenger believed the story was an attempt to make Gunners supporters, who are understandably unhappy with the direction the club is moving in, even angrier with Arsenal’s board and management. "Why does this story just come out when we lose a big game," Wenger asked, referring to his team’s 1-0 FA Cup fifth round loss to Blackburn on Saturday. "In your opinion? You think I am so naive that I don't see what is behind that? You think I am a complete idiot? The lie is targeted to hurt. It's easy to say people are not happy and, on top of that, to say he's extending the contract. That's what I mean.”
