Marseille Not Focused on Beckham PSG Debut

Joey Barton and Andre Ayew of Olympique Marseille say they are not particularly concerned with the expected debut of David Beckham heading into Sunday’s French “clasico” with Ligue 1 leader Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

"I don't mean no disrespect but he (Beckham) is not as scary as when he was playing in the Premier League," Barton said, referring to Beckham's 10-year career in the EPL with Manchester United, from 1993-2003. "PSG have a lot of stars, Beckham is the latest, but on the pitch he is not our main concern. It would be naive from us to focus on him."

Meanwhile, Ayew suggested he would be more interested in what the 37-year-old wears to and from the game, than concerned with what he does on the filed. "When I was little, I watched him on TV, I saw him do some great things and win trophies, but he's not my idol. It was never my dream to play against him,” the Marseille forward said, adding: “I like fashion, and it's more in that field that I admire him than for his football, even if he has scored some beautiful goals and provided some wonderful assists."

Following last weekend’s loss to Sochaux, PSG has seen its lead atop the Ligue 1 table cut to just three points. The big-spending French giant is just five points ahead of third-place Marseille going into Sunday’s clash.
