Inter Closing in on Toni

Internazionale, one of the few big clubs in Italy involved in the wide-reaching match-fixing scandal, is said to be closing in on Fiorentina striker Luca Toni. The club has been in pursuit of Serie A's top scorer since the end of last season. Football Italia says Fiorentina could be ready to part with him for around $28 million once the match-fixing appeal verdicts have been handed out. As it turns out, Fiorentina was not relegated, but the club was deducted a delibilitating 19 points to start the season. The report, which comes from before the scandal verdict, says the 29-year old Toni is more than happy with the proposed switch; his four-year contract would be worth around $5 million a season. Massimo Moratti, Inter's owner has already said he would either sign Toni, or one of Juventus pair David Trezeguet or Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Juve, which was relegated to Serie B and deducted a further 17 points, is now almost certain to sell both of its strikers, paving the way for Inter to move in. Ibrahimovic is said to be worth around $20 million.
