Dempsey sidelined, Brooks' Hertha claims first place

propelled Spurs into third place in the English Premier League ahead of defending champion Chelsea. In Germany, 20-year-old John Anthony Brooks started for
Hertha Berlin in a 1-0 win over Kaiserslautern that moved it into first place in the German Bundesliga 2 ahead of Eintracht Braunschweig.
Dempsey's calf injury was termed "minor."
Monday's game was the first he missed in 2013.
U.S. national team assistant coach Andi Herzog and scout Matthias
Hamann were among the more than 37,000 fans at Monday's Hertha Berlin-Kaiserslautern game. They came watch Brooks, who played 61 minutes, and fellow German-American Alfredo Morales, who dressed but did not play.
