Altidore does it all to tie Dempsey goal mark

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore put on one of his best shows since moving to Europe five years ago, scoring two goals -- the second with a chip over the goalie over 25 yards out -- and setting up the third in the last quarter of an hour as AZ beat Ajax, 3-0, to move into the final of the Dutch Cup. The two goals gave him 23 in all competitions for the season, tying the mark Clint Dempsey set with Fulham in 2011-12.

AZ meet PSV in the final on May 9. PSV beat PEC, 3-0, thanks to a hat trick by teenager Jurgen Locadia.

The chip was clearly more like 40, not 25, yards out.

When will the national team [and Jozy] that for Jozy to be effective as a goal scorer that he needs really good service when he's in the box and on the ground. With good service, he turns, maybe beats one defender and strikes on goal. That's when he is most effective. When he's effective, it opens up opportunities for others. Balls further out or in the air usually don't reap any benefits. Jozy also needs to understand that he needs to chase defenders when he doesn't have the ball or loses the ball. He has great potential to be a premier goal scorer but he needs to contribute more and get good help from others.

Too often, they want him to hold the ball up and it is not his strength. Hopefully the USMNT can figure out how best to utilize his talents.

The USMNT will be able to "utilize his strength" when they get a new USMNT Coach...
