Manchester City star Carlos Tevez was arrested Thursday on suspicion of driving without a license and faces  a possible jail sentence of up to sixmonths.

Tevez, 29, was driving a high-powered car, thought to be a white Porsche Cayenne, when he was stopped shortly after 5 p.m. in Macclesfield. He was later released on policebail.

The Argentine striker was banned from driving for six months in January after failing to respond to citations for speeding. His attorney argued in Tevez’s defense he did notunderstand the word “constabulary” on official letters from the police.

Driving with a suspended license is taken seriously in Britain. As an alternative to jail, courts may considercommunity service.
