Jamaica's English invasion continues

[HEXAGONAL COUNTDOWN] Jamaica added five Englishmen who had never played for the national team for the opening game of the Hexagonal against Mexico, and the move paid off as the Reggae Boyz earned an improbable 0-0 tie at Azteca Stadium. Jamaica is set to face Panama and Costa Rica in World Cup 2014 qualifying, and two more Englishmen with Jamaica ties, Jermaine Beckford of Huddersfield Town and Lloyd Doyley of Watford, could make their international debuts.

The five new players the Reggae Boyz added from England for the Mexico game were midfielders Marvin Elliot (Bristol City) and Joel Jobi McAnuff (Reading) and forwards Garath McCleary (Reading), Theo Robinson (Derby County) and Beckford.

Elliot, McCleary and McAnuff started against Mexico, and Robinson came on as a sub for the Reggae Boyz, who played well enough to win.

Beckford pulled out at the last minute because of an injury sustained in a league game. Doyley, 30, is expected to play at right back but he can play anywhere on the backline.

Four MLS players -- Donovan Ricketts (Montreal), Jermaine Taylor (Houston), Je-Vaughn Watson (FC Dallas) and Ryan Johnson (Portland) -- are also in Coach Theodore Whitmore's squad.

All-time leading scorer Luton Shelton (36 goals), who missed the Mexico game due to an injury, returns to the Jamaica squad.

Someone posted a few weeks ago he expected Jamaica to finish last in the hex. Must of been one of those "latin style" is superior crowd. I fully expect Jamaica to push the top two finishers all the way through October, and it appears they are pulling out all the stops to make Brazil '14. Love their ferocity and hope they qualify second behind the U.S.!

    I'll remember you said that.
