Gala Fans Try to Dig Tunnel into Schalke's Stadium

Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has claimed that a group of ticketless Galatasaray fans were caught trying to dig their way into Schalke’s Veltins-Arena using their bare hands ahead of the clubs’ UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg game in Gelsenkirchen.

According to the Guardian report, the away section was heavily oversubscribed for the crucial match with tickets being sold for up to $1,294 each. As such, this group of traveling Gala supporters decided to try and dig through the frozen ground underneath a perimeter fence. "Yes, that's right. Some supporters have tried to dig a tunnel with their bare hands," Heldt said following the game, which ended 3-2 in Galatasaray’s favor.

The win put the Turkish champion through to the Champions League quarterfinals with a 4-3 aggregate victory in the two-game series.
