Odemwingie Could Buy Out West Brom Contract, or Retire

Peter Odemwingie could resort to buying out his own contract in order to force a move away from West Bromwich Albion. The former Nigeria striker has hinted that he wants the club to terminate his contract but it does not appear as though West Brom is willing to comply. On Tuesday, Odemwingie tweeted: "I see a free player. A player who buys out his contract soon. Or a retired player. Does he look like he cares much? They made him not to.”

Under FIFA’s Article 17, players of the age of 28 can end their contracts two years after signing by paying a figure that is determined by their weekly salary and original transfer fee.

Over the weekend, Odemwingie, 31, unleashed a longer Twitter rant against his Premier League employer for failing to play him after he apologized for trying to force a move to Queens Park Rangers on transfer deadline day. The unhappy striker will now return to West Brom on Wednesday to face punishment for his latest breach of club discipline, which should cost him $121,000, around two weeks’ pay.
