Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara says it’s shocking that Callum McManaman has escaped English FA punishment for the horror challenge on him. Haidara added thathe feared the Wigan midfielder had ruined his life.

“I don’t understand (the decision not to ban McManaman),” Haidara said. “His tackle could have ended my career and ruined mylife but in the end he will play football before me. We have to protect the players. We can’t tolerate tackles like this in football.”

McManaman cleated Haidara in the knee whilemissing the ball by at least foot-length but officials claim they didn’t see a foul. Haidara was stretchered off the field. Initial scans of the injury have revealed only serious bruising and Haidaracould be back within a month.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor wants a disciplinary review panel formed to prevent more miscarriages of justice” “We have been asking for apanel of experienced people from within the game to look on a Monday morning at simulation, any abuse or tackles or red cards. There is an overriding principle that the referee is in charge but therehas to be an ability to look at things and act if necessary.”
