Former Germany striker Oliver Bierhoff has given the German national team almost no chance of lifting the World Cup in Brazil next summer. During a press conference ahead ofGermany’s home game against Kazakhstan on Wednesday, Bierhoff said: “For us, it is almost impossible to win the tournament. It is a really big mountain [to climb].”

Why? Becausehistory shows that “The South American teams are usually more advanced [in their own continent],” he added. That being said, Germany’s general manager does believe Die Mannschaft willqualify for Brazil 2014. He mentioned that the team is already looking at possible locations for its base, which he said, “would not be in the extreme north or south of Brazil.”

Germany, ranked second in the world by FIFA, currently leads its qualification group with 13 points, ahead of second-place Sweden with eight.
