E:60 examines USA-Mexico tug-of-war for players

By Paul Kennedy

E:60, ESPN's prime-time newsmagazine show, has produced a segment examining the latest aspect of the USA-Mexico soccer rivalry -- the fight to secure the talents of young players who hold dual citizenship.

Emmy Award-winning journalist Jeremy Schaap looks at young men like U.S. midfielder Joe Corona and Mexico’s under-20 national team goalkeeper Richard Sanchez, who live and play in two worlds. Corona lives in San Ysidro, Calif., and commutes to work at Tijuana, across the border. Sanchez is a goalkeeper for FC Dallas but won the 2011 Under-17 World Cup with Mexico.

Versions of the segment will begin airing in Tuesday’s "Outside The Lines" at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN2 followed by ESPN’s Mexico-USA pre-match show scheduled to air at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN.
USA-COSTA RICA RATINGS. The USA-Costa Rica World Cup qualifier drew an 0.7 rating (percentage of households tuning in to the game). No viewership figures were available.

-- Fans who missed the game played in a snowstorm can watch a re-airing Tuesday on ESPN Classic, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

HONDURAS-MEXICO VIEWERS. Friday's Honduras-Mexico averaged more than 2.3 million total viewers and nearly 1.3 million adults 18-49.

The match was the top ranked telecast among total viewers in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco, regardless of language in the time period.

CHASTAIN JOINS SPLASH. Former U.S. women's star Brandi Chastain is a contestant on Splash, ABC's new celebrity diving competition. She was a last-minute replacement for Chelsea Lately personality Chuy Bravo, who injured his heel. (Before training for the series, Bravo didn't know how to swim.)

Other athletes in the competition include retired basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, skier Rory Bushfield and Detroit Lion Ndamukong Suh. Splash trainer is former Olympic gold-medalist Greg Louganis.
