Report: Mourinho in Provisional Agreement for Chelsea Return

The Daily Mirror reports that Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has reached a provisional agreement with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to return to Stamford Bridge as head coach next season. According to the report, the deal will not happen if the Blues fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Chelsea is currently third in the EPL table, just one point above fourth-place Tottenham, with 55 points.

However, Champions League qualification will not guarantee Mourinho’s return, the Mirror claims, as the Portuguese is also entertaining a serious offer from Paris St. Germain. Should “The Special One” head for pastures new, then Anzhi Makhachkala coach Guus Hiddink is being lined up as another possible replacement for Rafael Benitez, the Blues' outgoing interim manager.

Another possible hurdle is Mourinho’s concern about working with technical director Michael Emenalo (formerly of Boston University and the San Jose Clash) and CEO Ron Gourlay -- the other powers that be at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho has shown at Real Madrid that he has a problem answering to those considered to be his superiors.
