Portland 'derby' draws capacity crowd

[NWSL] The Portland Thorns got second-half goals from forward Danielle Foxhoven and midfielder Allie Long for a 2-1 win over the University of Portland in a preseason friendly that drew a capacity crowd of 4,892 at Merlo Field on Saturday night.

Amanda Frisbie gave the Pilots a 1-0 lead against the run of play in the 30th minute. Foxhoven, a former UP forward, slotted home the equalizer through heavy traffic in the 52nd minute and Long delivered the game-winning goal for Thorns FC in the 73rd minute.

-- The Washington Spirit defeated 2012 NCAA champions North Carolina, 2-0, in front of 1,725 fans at Maryland SoccerPlex. The Spirit has yet to concede a goal, in what was its third preseason exhibition game in two weeks. Tiffany McCarty set up Caroline Miller for the first goal and scored the second one herself.

-- FC Kansas City got goals from Renae Cuellar, Courtney Jones, Casey Loyd and an own goal in a 4-0 win over Kansas University.

-- The Chicago Red Stars ended their stay in Austin, Texas, with a 2-1 win over the Houston Aces thanks to a pair of goals from Lori Chalupny.
