Another Liga MX rivalry match has drawn a sizable TV audience. Telemundo’s telecast of the Guadalajara-Club America match Sunday night (9:55 p.m. – midnight ET time slot) was watched by nearly 2.6 million total viewers, according to figures released by the network Monday. That represents an increase of 35 percent over the Telemundo broadcast of last year’s SuperClásico.

A viewership of nearly 1.6 million among adults 18-49 was also recorded, which is a 22 percent increase from last year. The cumulative audience, a measure of any viewer to who tuned into any portion of the telecast, reached nearly 4.8 million viewers, a 39 percent increase from last year.

The SuperClásico rated the highest of all English-language and Spanish language telecasts among adults 18-49 during its time slot in the following markets:  Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco, regardless of language.

The match registered a 108 percent growth in total viewers versus the SuperClásico broadcast by Telemundo last year in New York, as well as 101 percent jump in San Francisco, 76 percent in Dallas, 60 percent in Miami, 46 percent in Chicago and 45 percent in Los Angeles.

Interest in the Chivas-America derby peaked in 2007 when it drew 4,290,000 viewers for Univision's prime-time coverage of their Torneo Clausura match.
