Terim Blasts 'Awful' Referee Following 3-0 Loss

Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim said referee Norwegian Svein Oddvar Moen was “awful” and accused him of being afraid of Real Madrid following his team’s comprehensive 3-0 defeat to the Spanish champion in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal series.

"The referee was scared of Real Madrid's name. He's not a referee for this level," Terim told reporters after the game. "Did he defeat us? No. He blew his whistle at some very interesting parts of the game. I haven't seen the penalty shouts, but everyone says it was a penalty.” The Galatasaray coach added that the referee missed two penalty shouts -- one for a handball and one for a Sergio Ramos stamp on Burak Yilmaz.

Terim also lamented his team’s missed chances in the first half. "The goals we could have scored in the first half could have changed everything," he said, adding: "We will work hard in the second game, but Madrid are better-placed to go through. I don't like talking about referees. I never talk about them. But, the referee was awful."
