The English Premier League is expected to follow in FIFA’s steps by approving goal-line technology (GLT) for the 2013-2014 season later this week, according to English Football Association general secretary Alex Horne. "I always thought [GLT] was an ideal piece of technology to allow into the game," he said. "The [Premier League] club meeting is on Thursday so I'm expecting it to go through at that meeting."

Last week, FIFA announced that it had selected camera-based ball-tracking system GoalControl as its preferred GLT provider for the 2013 Confederations Cup as well as the 2014 World Cup, both in Brazil. GoalControl owner Dirk Broichhausen says his system costs around $260,000 to install in each stadium and around $3,800 to operate in each game. Though FIFA selected GoalControl, the Premier League could opt for another system, like Hawk-Eye, GoalRef or Cairos.
