Rowdies delighted to spoil San Antonio party

[NASL REWIND: Week 2] The Tampa Bay Rowdies spoiled the San Antonio Scorpions' opener at Toyota Field with a 2-0 win before a sellout crowd of 8,177.

Amani Walker put the Rowdies in front after only 12 minutes and a penalty kick converted by Bulgarian Georgi Hristov provided the cushion in the second half.

“Obviously we’re delighted to come away with three points,” said Rowdies coach Ricky Hill.  “We were determined to come here and, without being disrespectful, spoil the party.  It’s a fantastic arena and they’re fantastic supporters and I thought the atmosphere actually lifted our team tonight. Our goalkeeper Andrew Fontein waited patiently last year for his chance to play and didn’t get any minutes, and now has two games and two clean sheets, which is not a bad way to start.”

-- The Atlanta Silverbacks shut out the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, 2-0, on late goals by Beto Navarro and Danny Barrera in front of a sellout crowd of 5,402 fans at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.

-- Goals by Austin De Luz and Brian Shriver (20-yard free kick) gave the Carolina RailHawks a 2-1 win over FC Edmonton before a crowd of 5,033 at WakeMed Soccer Park.
