[CONCACAF UNDER-17 CHAMPIONSHIP] Luis Hernandez and Marco Granados scored togive Mexico a 2-0 win over a tough Guatemala team and advance to the semifinals of the Concacaf Under-17 Championship. The Tri will return to the Under-17 World Cup, which it won in 2005 and 2011.
 
Hernandez is one of five players from Pachuca. Granados is one of three players from Guadalajara.

Mexico has now qualified for 11 of 15 finals. It was not eligible to takepart in the 1989 tournament — Mexico was kicked out of all FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, for its role in an age-group scandal — and did not qualify for the 1989, 1995 and 2007finals.

  2. Ric, what was the purpose of highlighting that they were kicked out of FIFA competitions?? Does that have anything to do with the fact that they will play the Concacaf Final again?? This ingorant negativity towards a country that is obviously doing things right, unlike ourselves, is doing us no favors whatsoever. Instead of this garbage that has nothing to do with the title they should have added that Mexico has had huge success in the last few years that have seen USA decline heavily. Mexico has taken 3rd in the U20’s in 2011 as well and U23’s Gold in Olympics. That would have been more fitting info to go along with the title.

  3. Gents, Ric is spot on. I’m all for S.A. being a cheerleader for the US teams. It would not be very patriotic if it were not that way. However, it is beneath any honest journalist to consistently go beyond rooting for the home teams, and indulge in trying to build them up by highlighting any and all negatives about their competitors. The author here also conveniently forgot to mention Mexico’s 2005 U-17 WC title, it’s first. Hollow praise built upon the defamation of others. Our national teams can and should stand on their own merits. No thanks, S.A.!
