Pellgrini Open to Malaga Future

Following an interview given by agent Jesus Martinez suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini's days as Malaga coach are numbered, the Chilean tactician moved to distance himself from Martinez's comments, which set off a wave of speculation that the former Real Madrid coach had begun negotiations with Chelsea over its soon-to-be vacant coaching position.

“I am very good friends with him, but I am independent from Jesus [Martinez], I have no spokesperson and I’m not behind anyone else to say what I mean,” Pellegrini said Tuesday in a radio interview. “I cannot predict the future, but there is internal awareness at the club to sort out the project, they have to work on areas and have people of capability. My future depends more on what Malaga do externally, I have repeated several times, the situation is the same. I am happy to stay in Malaga and to fulfill the contract.” Pellegrini’s current contract runs until 2015.

“I said that when I came here it was to finish my career and to live here. I have a house here,” he said, adding that he is looking for a guarantee that the project is “similar to the one proposed initially.” The Chilean added that he spoke to Malaga owner Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani after the club’s Champions League elimination to Borussia Dortmund. “Yes I have spoken with him,” Pellegrini said. “He always transmits tranquility, we spoke after the game of these issues and there is no problem."
