The English Premier League remains king when it comes to American soccer viewers interested in watching leaguecompetitions.
The April 8 broadcast of the EPL’s top-of-the-standings clash between Manchester United and Manchester City averaged 611,000 viewers on ESPN — quite impressive for a Mondayafternoon broadcast.
That’s more than three times the average viewers for MLS’s first five telecasts this season on ESPN2. Sunday’s D.C. United-Philadelphia MLS game averaged 170,000viewers.
MLS is still outdrawing ESPN2’s newest soccer programming, Mexico’s Liga MX, by a wide margin. Cruz Azul-Tijuana drew 81,000 viewers and Puebla-Jaguares just 41,000 on theweekend of April 13-14.
