Zidane: Bale Worth $93 Million

Zinedine Zidane has described Tottenham winger Gareth Bale as “the best player in Europe,” predicting that the English Premier League’s Player of the Year could command a transfer fee as high as $93 million, which several of Europe’s biggest clubs -- including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich -- would gladly pay for the 23-year-old’s services.

Zidane’s praise of the Welshman last month fuelled speculation that Real would be swooping in to sign him this summer. Now, the Merengues’ adviser has taken his praise a step further: "After the season he has just had and still being so young, Gareth Bale is going to be one of the most expensive players in the world if he decides to move," the three-time former World Player of the Year told reporters. "Tottenham could command £40 million, £50 million maybe even £60 million for him. It is a lot of money, but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee and it won’t put them off.”

Zidane, a former Juventus and Real Madrid player, added:"A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or Champions League. They would be getting the best player in Europe this season and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another 10 years. What I like about him is that he has this electric pace, but also a big footballing brain to go with it. That is very rare."

Meanwhile, Tottenham coach Andre Villas-Boas, who would undoubtedly like to keep hold of his star player for at least another season, has pointed out that Zidane’s influence at Real -- he is sporting director -- is not as big as many suggest.
