Leroux scores first hat trick

[NWSL REWIND: Week 4] U.S. national team star Sydney Leroux scored the first hat trick in the NWSL to lead the Boston Breakers to a 4-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars before a sellout crowd of 3,113 fans at Dilboy Stadium. Katie Schoepfer gave Boston the lead in the 20th minute and Leroux followed with three goals to give her a league-high four goals this season. Zakiya Bywaters, the No. 1 pick in the WPSL college draft, had cut the deficit to 2-1, before Leroux put the game away with her second and third goals of the game.

-- Mexican international Renae Cueller scored her third goal in three games to lead FC Kansas City to a 1-0 win at the Seattle Reign, which has lost three in a row and is scoreless in the last 196 minutes. The Seattle home opener drew just  2,618 fans at at Starfire Stadium.

-- The Washington Spirit drew an overflow crowd of 5,011 fans for its game against the Portland Thorns, who remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win on goals by the game's big draw, Alex Morgan, and Nikki Washington. Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc made six saves to preserve the win as the Thorns earned their third consecutive victory. The Spirit goal came in the 87th minute when midfielder Diana Matheson scored a penalty kick.
