[COACHING EDUCATION] Alexi Lalas is slated to give the keynote address on player development at the inaugural NSCAA Summer Symposium in August at the Orlando World Center.
Lalas, a member of the USA’s 1994 and 1998 World Cup squads and
a National Soccer Hall of Famer, currently serves as TV analyst for ESPN and ABC Sports.
“This is a unique and exciting opportunity for me to talk about player development to a room
full of people who do it every day,” Lalas said. “I look forward to the dialogue this topic will create, and sharing my thoughts based on my own experiences.”
The NSCAA
launched the Summer Symposium (Aug. 1-3) in part for coaches unable to attend the January Convention. Like the Convention, the Symposium features an exhibitors’ hall and coaching education
sessions.
The opening panel addresses the question: “How far have we advanced in our development of
Coaching Education and Player Development in the United States?” Moderated by NSCAA CEO Joe Cummings, the panel is comprised of the USA’s 1990 World Cup coach Bob
Gansler, NSCAA Director of Coaching Education Ian Barker, University of Florida head coach Becky Burleigh, former U.S. star Tony Sanneh and
former Everton youth academy coach Tosh Farrell.
”Adding Alexi to our Summer Symposium lineup enhances the quality and excitement we have in launching this
event,” said Cummings. “This event is about educating coaches to better the game and I have no doubt that the insight he will share will add to the experience.”

Lalas has no business discussing player development. He was a hack and still likes hacks. The US is so far behind and we will continue as long as we think someone like Lalas should be involved in a player development discussion.
