League increases suspension, fines Boswell

[MLS DISCIPLINE] A vicious head-butt to New England forward Dimitry Imbongo has prompted the MLS Disciplinary Committee
to suspend Houston defender Bobby Boswell an additional game and fine him an unspecified amount.
Boswell committed the foul, for which he was sent
off, in the 39th minute of the Dynamo's loss to the Revs Saturday. The committee ruled the foul to be violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent. Imbongo was also sent off for throwing
Boswell to the ground during the incident.
Boswell will serve a total suspension of two games -- this Sunday at Sporting Kansas City and June 1 at the Columbus Crew.

A graphic example of what is wrong with MLS officiating. They added "a game"? Here's a thought. The sanction for assault . . . pardon me, violent conduct . . . should be a MINIMUM 3 game suspension. This action has nothing to do with playing the game and everything to do with "sending a message". So send the offender a message that this will not be tolerated.
Also, it doesn't appear that Imbongo's red card was warranted. It doesn't look like he did much of anything to Boswell and, considering the provocation, the sending-off seems harsh. It looks like a case of the ref covering all his bases, but the result is that the team that deserved to play a man down did not have to.
Agreed--yellow card at the most for Imbongo. To punish the Rev's does nothing to stop violent conduct DURING THE MATCH.
