Micah Richards: 'I Want to Play for NYCFC'

New MLS franchise co-owner Manchester City and Chelsea played out an entertaining friendly at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Thursday, which the New York City FC affiliated club won 4-3. After the game, defender Micah Richards said he hopes one day to play for NYCFC, which enters the American league in 2015.

"To announce a team that's over here called New York City is just unbelievable and hopefully four, five, six years ... I can come and get a run out over here as well, because I love New York," the 24-year-old Richards said after scoring the winning goal in City's come-from-behind win. The Sky Blues will play Chelsea again on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Meanwhile, City CEO Ferran Soriano on Thursday declared that he wants the club to win no less than five trophies over the next five years. After failing to win any silverware this year, Soriano & Co. fired Roberto Mancini, shortly after City lost the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic. City fans, clearly still unhappy about Mancini’s sacking, have banded together to buy an ad in the Manchester Evening News, thanking the Italian for “three unforgettable years,” in which he won the 2011 FA Cup and the 2011/12 Premier League title.

"... hopefully four, five, six years ... I can come and get a run out over here as well, because I love New York," I can't wait for the day when players who are 19 and eager to prove something are getting paid as much as those that are 30 and ready to get a run in LA or NY.
