Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp and CEO Hans-JoachimWatzke said theirs is perhaps the only team in the world that can beat the mighty Bavarian giant at the moment. In fact, over the last two years, Dortmund has had the upper hand inhead-to-head meetings between the German rivals, losing only once, in the German Cup quarterfinal in February.

“The last two years don’t really matter when it comes to this final,” Kloppsaid at a Puma Champions League final event. “If you look at the results of Bayern Munich this season, they basically destroyed anyone in a heartbeat, anyone but us. We’ve always fought back, even ifwe weren’t in the best shape in some matches.”

The Dortmund coach added: “When we are in our best condition — and this is the only thing we really need to talk about — we canbeat Bayern Munich. We know this, and so do they. But we have to make it come true now. We know we will play against probably the best team in the world at this moment in time, but we also know we arethe only ones who have the weapons to be an actual threat to them. And this is exactly what we want to capitalize on.”

When asked the same question, Watzke said: “I think there is only team at the moment that can beat Bayern –and that’s us,” he mused. “Of course everything has to fall into place and we have to play at the top of our game. But, yes, we have a chance. In any case, we will stretch Bayern to the limit.”
