Newly promoted French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco, which is bankrolled by the Russian billionaire Dmitry Ryolovlev, has just made its first significant splash in the European transfer
market by signing coveted FC Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. According to the Sun, both players signed five-year contracts this afternoon in a
deal worth close to $91 million.
Portuguese international Moutinho, 26, had been linked to Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham, while Manchester United had closely followed Colombian
international Rodriguez, 21.
The pair’s capture shows that the Monte Carlo-based club is serious about spending money on big-name players. Monaco has also been linked with an even
bigger cash outlay for Atletico Madrid’s star striker Radamel Falcao.
