Dempsey Reflects on 'Good' Season

Clint Dempsey admits that there is room for improvement on his first season at Tottenham Hotspur. The U.S. international bagged 12 goals and 9 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions, finishing as the club’s third-highest scorer. "I would say it was a good season but I wouldn't say it was a great season," Dempsey said. "I would say it was a good season for the first year being at a club. I'd say it was my third-best season in Europe with 12 goals and eight or nine assists in all competitions."

The Texan, who received criticism for the way his last-minute transfer was handled, stands by his decision to move from Fulham to Spurs: "I wanted to push myself so I could look back on my career and say every opportunity that I had I pushed myself to further my career, to really test and see what I was capable of doing," he said. "I took advantage of it."

The 30-year-old added that he is also enjoying his relationship with Coach Andre Villas-Boas. "He's a good manager who really breaks down the game,” Dempsey said. "He's able to bring you to the side and talk to you. He'll also send you texts on the phone and stuff, so you always know where you stand. That's always a good feeling."

Despite missing out on the UEFA Champions League next season, Dempsey says he still hopes to play in the competition one day: "I've always wanted to play at the highest level possible,” he said. “When I got to the Premier League, I wanted to play in the Champions League. Maybe one day that'll be for me, maybe it won't, but at the end of the day I can look in the mirror and say that I tried my best to make it happen."
