Benitez Joins Napoli

Former Chelsea interim coach Rafael Benitez on Monday was officially unveiled as the successor to Walter Mazzarri at Napoli, who last week was named coach of Inter Milan. “Now that the agreement is confirmed, I can say I am very happy and very satisfied for having committed to a great club with an illustrious heritage like Napoli,” Benitez stated on his official Web site. Benitez’s tenure at Chelsea ended following the conclusion of the club’s U.S. tour on Sunday.

“I understand the history of the city and how the club forms a fundamental part of the culture and traditions of Naples. I must confess that I am extremely excited because I can share my passion for soccer with the fans of Napoli -- it is proven that they are very, very special.”

Napoli President Aurelio DeLaurentiis described the Spaniard as “A man of great international experience. A leader,” on his Twitter account. This will be Benitez’s second spell in charge of a Serie A club, after his tumultuous six-month stint in charge of Inter Milan in 2010/2011.
