Univision's Mexico final wins broadcast primetime

By Paul Kennedy

Univision's coverage of the thrilling Club America-Cruz Azul match -- shootout winner America came back from two goals down with a minute left in regulation and tied the score on a goal by its goalie in stoppage time -- drew 4.5 million total viewers, making the Mexican league finale Sunday's highest-rated primetime program, regardless of language, on all of broadcast television among adults 18-49 and 18-34.

It also made Univision the No. 1 broadcast network in primetime among adults 18-34, beating ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.

Among all programming, the Univision finished only behind the Heat-Pacers NBA playoff game in ESPN in the key categories of adults 18-49 and 18-34.

-- MLS's Sunday viewing figures were 191,000 for ESPN2's LA Galaxy-Seattle game, which had a 11 p.m. ET start for Robbie Rogers, his first game since returning to action, and 80,000 for NBC Sports Network's Houston-Sporting KC game in the afternoon.

COSMOS WILL WEAR NIKE. The New York Cosmos will wear Nike for the 2013 NASL fall season that begins Aug. 3.

They will sport the same colors and iconic logo as previously adorned by soccer legends Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinaglia and Carlos Alberto during the 70s and 80s.

The Cosmos’ primary uniform features a white shirt with green crew-neck collar, numbers and letters, plus white shorts with a green stripe and number. The secondary kit features a similar design with the green and white reversed. Both designs will be worn with white socks.
