Podolski and Bender make quick work of La Tri

[GERMANY-ECUADOR] Germany warmed up for Sunday's match against the USA with a 4-2 win over Ecuador. Despite being without many of its starters, the Germans ran rampant with four goals in the opening 24 minutes -- the first from Lukas Podolski after nine seconds -- against one of the hottest teams in South America. The game drew was played in the afternoon for German prime-time viewing and drew a sparse crowd of 8,521 at FAU Stadium.

Podolski stole the opening kickoff backpass to Ecuador defender Gabriel Achilier and set the Germans on their way.

Within three minutes, it was 2-0 as Sidney Sam, who was making his national team debut, set up Lars Bender for the first of his two goals.

Manchester United's Antonio Valencia scored for La Tri in the 44th minute, and Walter Ayovi's free kick finished off the scoring in the 84th minute.

German coach Joachim Loew's assessment: "It was a very, very good first half for us. In the end we weren’t able to hold the pace. I knew the team needs more than 15 or 20 players. These games are great for youngsters to gain experience."
