Wambach goal puts her two shy of Hamm's record

[USA-SOUTH KOREA] The USA defeated South Korea, 4-1, in a women's friendly Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The USA led 2-0 after seven minutes as it extended its unbeaten streak to 33 games. Abby Wambach scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time for her 156th career goal, putting her only two behind Mia Hamm's record.

Boston area product Kristie Mewis gave the USA the lead after three minutes with her first international goal, and Lauren Cheney made it 2-0 four minutes later, but Ji Soyun, who plays in Japan, cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 26th minute.

Wambach's goal was her first ever against South Korea, the 32nd different country against which she has scored in her international career.

The game marked the international debut for University of Virginia star Morgan Brian, a late sub.

The USA plays South Korea again Thursday game at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The game will be the final match of the summer and last international before the end of the NWSL season.
