Tahitian joy in the midst of defeat

[CONFEDERATIONS CUP] As expected Nigeria trounced Tahiti, 6-1, in their Confederations Cup match Monday in Belo Horizonte, but the match will forever be remembered for the joy of the underdog Tahitians after Jonathan Tehau scored on a header off a corner kick in the 54th minute.

Tahitians, all but one of them amateurs and many of the unemployed, celebrated by by simulating a short rowing session.

Tehau's joy was shortlived as 12 minutes later he scored an own goal. Nnamdi Oduamadi led the Super Eagles with a hat trick.

What is the purpose of Tahiti being in the tournament??? Yes, I know that the won the 2012 Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup to qualify. Maybe nobody should come from that region. Who wants to seem them getting destroyed every game they play??

I don't know......I kinda' liked seeing their joy.......but yes, there appears little to gain from getting destroyed. In some sense, it would be nice to believe their inclusion will help build the sport in that region someday.
