Scott Van Hiatt, of Neskowin, was arrested on Monday, charged with the criminally negligent homicide of Richard Swanson, the man who sought to dribble a soccer ball 10,000 miles from Seattle to Sao Paulo. Swanson was hit from behind by a pickup truck while walking south along U.S. 101 on May 14th. Hiatt stayed at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation, police said. He is in jail on $50,000 bail pending arraignment Tuesday, Lincoln County District Attorney Rob Bovett told the AP.
Saddened to hear this story but seems like it was going to be a very dangerous trip in the first place. I believe it is illegal to even walk along most highways. Also, just wondering if he realized how dangerous Mexico, central america, and south america can be.
