Thorns FC lands Weimer from Fortuna Hjorring

[NWSL] Portland Thorns FC, tied for first place with Sky Blue FC, signed forward Tiffany Weimer for the remainder of the inaugural 2013 NWSL season. The former Penn State star spent the 2012-13 Danish season with Fortuna Hjorring for which she scored 14 goals in all competitions, helping it take second place in the Elitedivisionen regular season and Danish Women’s Cup and reach the round of 16 at the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

“Tiffany Weimer is a seasoned professional,” head coach Cindy Parlow Cone said. “She will bring another level of sophistication to our attack as she can play anywhere in the midfield and as a forward.”

Weimer, 29, also played in WPS (FC Gold Pride and Boston) and W-League (Vancouver) and has experience abroad playing for clubs in Finland, Brazil, Sweden and Denmark.

She holds the NCAA record-long scoring streak (along with Thorns FC forward Christine Sinclair) by recording a goal in 17 consecutive matches during her senior season in 2005. Weimer finished the 2005 season with 32 goals, coming in second in the nation behind Sinclair (39).

On the national team level, Weimer played for the U.S. U-21s and was called into senior national team training camps in January 2007 and February 2008.
