Not unexpectedly, midfielder Danny Garcia
, who was taken off the field after he was elbowed in the back
of his head in the USA's opening game against Spain at the Under-20 World Cup, won't return for his sophomore year at North Carolina, where he was the 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year, after signing a
homegrown contract with FC Dallas.
He becomes the 10th U.S. U-20 player on the USA’s U-20 World Cup team to sign with an MLS team. U-20 teammate Kellyn Acosta
signed with FC Dallas between his junior and senior year in high school.
They played on the 2012 FC Dallas U-17/18 Development Academy championship team.
Garcia is the 11th homegrown player in Dallas history.
