Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski beat out the likes of Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger to Germany’s Player of the Year prize for last season, which was voted on by the Bundesliga’s union of professional soccer players (VDV). And it wasn’t that close, either: the Poland international received 31.6 percent of the vote, ahead of Ribery, 21.6 percent, and Schweinsteiger, 11.3 percent.

Lewandowski, a target for Bayern, Barcelona and Manchester City this summer, scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga last season, finishing second in the scoring table to Bayer Leverkusen’s Stefan Kiessling. "I want to thank all the Bundesliga players that elected me as player of the season," the striker said on his official Facebook page. "It makes me especially proud that the opponents from the league voted for me."

In Coach of the Year voting, Bayern’s treble-winning coach Jupp Heynckes took the top honor with 45.9 percent of the vote, barely beating out Freiburg’s Christian Streich, who received 41.6 percent. Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp was third with 6.5 percent.
