Red Bulls cut ties with Juninho; D.C. signs Jeffrey

[MLS TRANSACTIONS] After just 13 matches with the New York Red Bulls, Juninho is headed back to Brazil. The Red Bulls came to an agreement with the 37-year-old midfielder to cancel his contract.

“We are very disappointed that Juninho has decided to return to Brazil because he is a great professional and a very talented footballer,” said Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh. “We wish him all of the best and thank him for his valuable contributions during the first half of the 2013 MLS campaign.”

Juninho, a member of Brazil's 2006 World Cup squad, recorded four assists and 13 appearances, 10 of which were starts.

He battled a calf sprain and also missed time after being suspended for two games for kicking a dead ball in the penalty area at Sporting KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

-- D.C. United picked up 23-year-old Jared Jeffrey, who has played for the U.S. U-17s, U-20s and U-23s.

He spent the last three seasons with Mainz II in Germany after starting his pro career at Belgium's Club Brugge, where he was a member of the first team but never saw league action.
