Chivas USA gets center forward Torres

[MLS TRANSACTIONS] Chivas USA confirmed its biggest signing of the season when it acquired Erick Torres on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara. The 20-year-old forward debuted with Chivas at 17 and was once considered the heir apparent to Javier Hernandez after "Chicharito" moved to Manchester United.

Torres played his first game for Chivas in November 2010 and became a regular in 2011, scoring 11 goals in the two half-seasons.

“Erick’s arrival is very important to Chivas USA as he will strengthen an area of the team that most needs it,” said head coach Jose Luis Real in a statement. “He’s a different and highly experienced player. He’s a young forward who made his debut at age 17 and who has always proven himself to be a player with a very bright future. Mentally, he is very strong and positive, and that’s what we need in a center forward at Chivas.”

Chivas USA has the second worst offense in MLS, and no player has scored more than two goals.

For much of the season, the top scorer was Juan Agudelo, and he was traded to New England after playing just six games.
