Jose Mourinho has said that Wayne Rooney is Chelsea’s only summer transfer target after Manchester United rejected an offer rumored to be around $30 million. When asked if the Blues had made bids for other players, the Portuguese, who was speaking to the press after Chelsea’s 1-0 win against the Singha All-Stars, said: “No — and wewon’t.” He added: “We want the player. Now it’s up to Manchester United.” Pressed further if it was Rooney or bust, Mourinho said: “Yes,” adding: “I think that this situation is clear –nothing is a secret any more. The official bid is just about a certain amount of money and doesn’t involve players. We made the bid and now we have nothing more to say.”

United, meanwhile, has insisted that Rooney is not for sale, although the player is understood to have been left “angered and confused” by the recent press conference coach David Moyes gavewhere he suggested that Robin van Persie is the club’s main striker. Rooney has made it clear that he would not accept a squad role. Chelsea is now expected to make an improvedoffer for the England international of around $38 million.
