FC Kansas City jumps into the lead

[NWSL REWIND: Week 16] FC Kansas City moved into first place in the NWSL, jumping ahead of Sky Blue FC and the Portland Thorns FC, with a 3-0 win over the Boston Breakers Wednesday night in front of 5,024 fans at Verizon Wireless Field.

All three goals came in the last 18 minutes. Merritt Mathias’ cross was deflected into the goal by Boston defender Kia McNeill to put Kansas City ahead in the 72nd minute.

Kansas City added two more goals from Courtney Jones and Mathias in the 85th and 90th minutes, respectively.
