Dzsenifer Marozsan's goal in the 33rd minute was the only goal of the game. Sweden had its chances in the second half, the best of which was Josefine Oqvist's shot that rolled across the goal and hit the far post to the dismay of the crowd of more than 16,000 fans at Gothenburg's Gamla Ullevi Stadium.

Sundhage, who returned home to coach Sweden after leading the USA to two Olympic gold medals, said she was proud of her players' efforts.

"I can take positives from the style in which we have played throughout the tournament," she said. "I'm very happy with the chances we created. I'm proud of what we have achieved, we've scored a lot of goals, but we couldn't find our feet in front of goal tonight. There is more to come from this team."
