Whitehill replaces Cole as Breakers' coach

[NWSL] The Boston Breakers, who sit in fifth place in the NWSL, became the second team to replace their head coach this season when they fired Lisa Cole and assistant Maren Rojas and replaced Cole with defender Cat Whitehill, who will be the interim player/coach. Cole's roots with the Breakers go back to the WPS when she was an assistant and the WPSL Elite when she was Boston's head coach.

“Lisa was a critical participant in the launch of the National Women’s Soccer League and making sure there was a professional women’s league in the U.S.,” Boson Breakers managing partner Michael Stoller said in a statement. “I cannot thank her enough for her years of service to the Breakers and women’s professional soccer.”

The Breakers trail the Western New York Flash by seven points for the fourth and final NWSL playoff spot with four games to play in the regular season.

A loss to the Flash on Saturday -- along with a Sky Blue FC win over last-place Washington -- will eliminate Boston from the playoffs.

Don't exactly know why, but if you look at college grades, it's clear women soccer players are much smarter than their male counterparts. And everyone knows defenders are brighter than forwards. No surprise when a very bright one like Cat Whitehill moves into a player/coach role to salvage a season. Anson Dorrance might have something to do with it also, shows them how to manage a team.
