Chivas offers Arreola spot on youth team

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Luis Arreola of Chicago's FC Athletico has received an offer to play for Chivas de Guadalajara's Fuerzas Basicas program for '99 players.

Kevin Garcia, also with the FC Atletico program, and Arreola received invites from Chivas and Club America after being spotted at the annual 7UP Sueno Alianza program.

Arreola was offered a spot on the Chivas FB '99 team after only the third day of training in Mexico.

"We want him here as soon as possible," said Chivas director Salvador Gamero, "preferably by the end of this month. We knew he was a top talent in USA but were pleasantly surprised he adapted immediately to our style and level of play. He has everything to make it very far in his soccer career."

Arreola is scheduled to play for the Chivas youth team in Houston Aug. 12-18. He also has a couple of trials set up right afterwards in Germany with VfB Stuttgart and Schalke 04.

He also has a scholarship to attend Lake Forest Academy in suburban Chicago.

Ric, Academies have approached my husband about our son but we have felt that up till now his current club is better for his development. In his current club he plays vs high level 98/97/96's that we feel will challenge him better than Academy 99 would in our area.
