Wayne Rooney plans to issue a formal transfer request in order to try and force a move to Chelsea. The Guardian reports that the England striker is increasingly thinkinghe needs to force a move after Manchester United revealed it had turned down another bid of $38.4 million plus an additional $7.7 million in potential add-ons from Stamford Bridge.

In themeantime, Rooney has pulled out of United’s next preseason game against AIK Stockholm although the official explanation from United is that he has a shoulder injury. Despite the speculation, theEnglish champion insists that its not for sale stance on Rooney is firm and not merely a bargaining technique.

According to the Guardian, Rooney is intrigued at the possibility of playingfor Blues coach Jose Mourinho. He has also grown disillusioned with life at Old Trafford, especially considering his fractured relationship with former United coach AlexFerguson, whom he believes will still play a significant role at the club next season.
