Morgan out 2-4 weeks with MCL sprain

[NWSL] U.S. national team star Alex Morgan is expected to be out 2-4 weeks after an examination revealed she had sustained a mild MCL sprain in her left knee early in the Portland Thorns' match at Boston on Wednesday night.

“It’s a relief that there is no significant damage to my knee," she said. "I will do everything in my power between now and Aug. 24 in order to be available for the playoffs and to win the championship."

Even though Portland lost, 2-1, it clinched a playoff berth when Chicago fell at Washington, 1-0.

The playoff field is set with a week and a half to play in the regular season as FC Kansas City, Portland, Western New York and Sky Blue FC are through to the semifinals on Aug. 24.
