West Virginia picked to win title

[BIG 12: Women] West Virginia, which won the 2012 Big 12 regular-season title with a 7-0-1 record in its inaugural season in the conference, is picked to claim the top spot in 2013. The Mountaineers, who return nine starters, earned seven first-place votes to finish ahead of Texas Tech and Baylor.

Five WVU players named to the All-Big 12 preseason team: defender Jess Crowder, midfielder Kara Blosser, midfielder Ashley Lawrence, forward Kate Schwindel and forward Frances Silva.

Texas Tech’s duo of forward Janine Beckie and defender Jaelene Hinkle, who both earned All-Big 12 first team recognition last season after leading the Red Raiders to a third-place conference finish and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, are also on the All-Big 12 preseason team.
