scored two goals and assisted a Haji Wright
goal to give the
U.S. under-15 boys national team a 3-1 victory over Uruguay that moved it into the quarterfinals at the 2013 Copa Mexico de Naciones in Mexico City.
Gallardo, who moved to Mexico to play
in the youth system at Monterrey, also had two goals in the 4-0 win over Panama. The U.S. U-15s had opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Brazil.
The USA finished ahead of second-place
Uruguay (1-1-1) and third-place Brazil (1-1-1) and advances to the quarterfinals on Wednesday against a third-place finisher out of either Group A or C.
All three U.S. goals against
Uruguay came in the second half of the 70-minute match. Gallardo tallied his first goal in the 45th minute off of an Alex Valela
assist, and then notched his
second brace in as many days off of an Alejandro Zendejas
assist in the 62nd minute. Joshua Perez
the game’s opening goal against Panama in the 13th minute, and Christian Pulisic
added a penalty kick tally in the 31st minute.
